Setting and achieving goals for 2017

Did we happen to miss a few months in 2016? I can’t believe another year has come and gone. Did everyone have a great year? I hope everyone is off to a great 2017! New year, new beginnings, and new goals. Who doesn’t love a fresh start. This is the perfect time to reflect on the year before and set obtainable goals for the year ahead. I started my blog almost a year ago, (which is so crazy) and I can’t believe the small strides I have already reached. If you have stopped over here before, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and kindness. If this is your first time here, welcome and thank you as well. I have so many things in store for the new year, and I hope you come along for the journey.

As far as family, this year has had its challenges. We have learned my son has some disabilities, and that has raised many challenges. However, with the right doctor and help, he has come so far and grown so much. My sister who resides with us got her license and is now applying for colleges. I’ll have my whole wardrobe to myself (insert happy dance)! If you haven’t met Stella from my insta-stories, she is our family cat a.k.a The Queen Bee.

Brian and I still haven’t picked a date for our wedding. We let our busy day to day activities get the best of us. I can’t wait to walk down the aisle, and become Mrs. Burke! I can honestly say I am blessed with one of the best men in the whole world. Planning our wedding is my number one priority for the year ahead. We are both nurturers by nature and tend to put everyone else before ourselves. Which now that I think about it, should really be a goal for this year! We both need to learn to put ourselves first sometimes. Our goal as a couple is to get out once a week, even if its only for coffee.

Follow through in all aspects of my life.

    Following through is so important. This is something we should learn at a very young age. I need to apply this in so many areas. I need to be better at holding myself accountable for what I say. I can’t tell you how many times I have done this with an old girlfriend, “I will call you this week”. Of course you never do…then the next time you see them you say the same thing. Your word is so important. If I tell my followers I will be uploading 3x weekly I want to make sure that happens. You want people to believe and trust what you say.  This goal will not only make me a better blogger, but also a much better mother. I know I am not the only one to give in to avoid the melt down.

Drink more water

    I think this has been one of my resolutions for a few years now. I can’t begin to tell you how much energized and awake I feel when I’m getting my daily recommendation of H2O. My skin looks much clearer and more hydrated. I also tend to snack and graze less, hunger is often mistaken for thirst. In the beginning I have to pee every five minutes, but I think the pro’s certainly out way the con’s. Bottoms UP!

Grow my social media presence

    There are so many social platforms, and it is so hard to keep up with all of them. Instagram is probably my most active. My goal is to hit 10K organically this year, while putting more heart into the others. Pinterest is the most used of all the platforms, and is known to drive the most blog traffic. Pinterest is actually a search engine, did u know that? I didn’t! That alone should be one reason I utilize the site more. It’s the one site the continues to promote long after you have pinned.

Learn to say NO!

   I have always had a hard time telling people no. I am a people pleaser. Doesn’t sound like the worst thing to be called (I can think of much worse). However, I can’t tell you how many times I have disrupted my day or didn’t do something I needed to for the sake of someone else. I need to start putting myself first, at least once and a while! Being able to stick up for yourself is HUGE. Learning to say ,”I just dont feel like it today” or “I have stuff I need to get done”. If your anything like me, it’s easier to avoid confrontation than to voice how you really feel.

Plan & Schedule

    This is mostly geared toward my blog. I need to treat it like a job instead of a hobby. I have gotten better at uploading content, but, could be so much better if I schedule time to sit down and do it. My blog is one of my favorite things to do. Because of that it usually gets pushed to the back of the to-do list. I work on it after the laundry is done, after the house is clean, after the errands are run, etc. When time to work on the blog finally comes around it’s late, and I am usually exhausted! This year I am going to schedule it in my planner just like an appointment. That way I stop what I am doing to get to work!

Also, having a planner is key to staying organized. I get much more accomplished when I write it down. Life is so busy, so having one place where you write down everything you need to do is a true lifesaver.

Eat Less SUGAR

    Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying I need to diet. If anything a few pounds of muscle would do my body good. My meal to meal choices are not that bad either. My true problem lies in my late night sugar comas. When the sun goes down, all bets are off. I just crave sugar at night. I have recently switched over to Halo top creamery ice cream. It’s really good, and low in sugar as well as fat (I know, I didnt believe it either). It’s all about small changes. I know if if I can cut it back, I will crave it less. Hopefully that less will then turn into every once and a while. Do any of you do sugar?? How did you cut it out.

This first year of blogging has been truly wonderful, but also very challenging. I hope to bring you even more wonderful content this coming year.
