Happy Monday! A fresh start to the week, and the perfect day to begin my Capsule Wardrobe Series – WooHoo! I am very excited to start this series and with good reason. Everyone can have fun with a few trendy pieces but it’s the classic, timeless staples that we wear over and over again.
Welcome to the first post in my new series. I wanted to let you know that I will be doing these every Monday. There are quite a few coats that I consider staples. There is the trench coat, blazer, pee coat but this week it’s all about the perfect fall jacket. Can you guess which one I’m talking bout, the moto jacket!
There is no doubt the moto jacket has been around for years. Marlon Brando in 1953 in the wild One in the classic leather bomber, and we have James Dean rocking one in 1955 while cruising on his motorcycle smoking a cigarette.
In 2009 Kate Moss brought a more feminine update to the runway, with celebrities like Ashley Olsen following suite.
The moto jacket has been a top seller two years in a row during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, both the leather and suede versions! This Blank NYC moto jacket looks far more expensive than it actually is, and for under $200 I couldn’t recommend this one more – I have three!
Never feel guilty when investing in a statement piece. The price per wear will make it worth your money. However, if it’s not in your budget there are many great affordable versions too.
So why is the moto jacket a great staple for any capsule wardrobe? First off, these jackets have been around for years and I don’t see them going anywhere soon. If you haven’t already purchased a moto jacket and plan on doing so, go for a neutral color and understated hardware to make it more timeless. You can always buy a trendy version at affordable price.
I usually wear mine with jeans and tees but have also rocked it with a maxi skirt when I’m feeling like a true fashionista- that doesn’t happen too often. There are tons of ways to rock the moto jacket, and for many seasons.
Thanks for reading & start creating your capsule wardrobe!
